Year of Adventures for the MOODS

Whoa, it's been a long time since we posted a blog!  A lot has happened over the past year.  Here are some of the highlights:

JAY traveled back to the Philippines, his birth country, for the first time in 20 years.  Accompanying him were his Dad, his parents-in-law, and me, the wifey.  It was amazing to see how much his homeland had changed in his two-decade absence.  We explored modern-day Manila, traipsed about the provinical countryside, and spent several luxurious days in the tropical beach paradise of Boracay.

On the artistic front, he's been working on new MOODS songs, a gaggle of graphic design projects, and is now smack dab in the middle of February Album Writing Month.  More on that in a later post!

ERIN graduated from grad school!  Yes, I now possess an MFA in Drama with an emphasis in Directing.  Stay tuned to see how I put that degree to work directing our upcoming MOODS videos.  After graduation and our fun in the Philippines, I traveled to Ecuador with the Dramatic Adventure Theatre company.  We did lots of sight-seeing in the cosmopolitan city of Quito before heading up into the Andes.  We spent a week in the small village of Quilotoa at an elevation of over 12,000 feet!  There we helped build a community center, participated in a mask dance workshop, and taught English and theatre to the local kids.  Check out this gorgeous photo of the crater lake beside the village.
After the mountains, we headed down to the northwest coastal city of Esmeraldas where we swam in the warm Pacific Ocean, ate fresh ceviche, and taught theatre games to art school students.  The trip wasn't all fun and games for me though, as a near fatal case of pneumonia (seriously) put me in a Colombian hospital for 3 weeks and an American hospital for another 3.  That was an unexpected adventure.  I'm recovering quite well and am feeling much better these days!

ERIC has been focusing a lot of his creative energy into some of his other artistic interests.  He has put together a number of compelling photography series.  His Fabrications series takes straightforward study photographs and reframes them through the use of lightboxes and textured fabrics.
My favorites, though, are found in his Phantasmagoria series.  These haunting images raise more questions than they answer.  The photos say far more themselves than I can about them:

See the whole series here.  Next step, grad school?

MARK has been managing to find time to drum for 3 bands -- yes, 3 bands.  In addition to The MOODS, he's been playing with The Jennifer Project ( along with Eric & Jay) and Bob Knows BestBKB recently celebrated the release of their EP, A #1 Ancient Chinese Food Fight (cover art by Jay - he's been busy!).

BRIAN GOT MARRIED!  Last August, our Beej and his sweetheart, Holly, got hitched, took the plunge, tied the knot, etc. with his band-mates and loved-ones cheering him on.  Both being whimsical spirits, their vows to each other were far from traditional and had the wedding-goers laughing in their seats XD

HEIDI has been enjoying San Diego life in her new home.  She's been fixing the place up with her husband and applying her mad artistic skillz to decorating.  On the side, she's been rescuing cast-off furniture pieces on their last legs and transforming them into household wonders.

She's also been jamming with several musicians in an all-girl band.  The project is under tight wraps right now, but we'll keep you all posted on future developments.

Whew!  Glad we got all that taken care of.  Thanks for reading and keep checking back to find out about our upcoming shows and shenanigans.  Don't forget about our show at the Puka Bar in Long Beach on February 19th.  We'll be playing a NEW SONG, so we hope to see you there!
